Makes me want to get more old Star Trek books and comics

I thought it was kinda, meh, myself, although I generally liked it.

I liked the production quality but had to read online what it all meant (the whole Saavik thing went right over my head as I didn’t recognize her) and the whole thing smacked of memba berries.

I agree with (I think it was Nerdrotic) that said if you stuck this at the end of Generations it would’ve been perfect. Still a sucky movie but the ending would’ve been good!

"Memba Berries" was the point. It was a dead Kirk flashing through and coming to terms with the memories of his lifetime, what else would you call it?

Can’t argue with that. I will say it was nice for me as someone who lived Trek but like Star Wars I have no interest in the new stuff. End of Generations would’ve been perfect. I have a lot of Trek books and comics but there are plenty more lol

I watched it. I am not a Star Trek fan, nor have I ever cared for the franchise, but I was thoroughly impressed by how well done it was. We are on the cusp of CGI actors being indistinguishable from the real thing. There was still a little bit of uncanny valley for me, but it was very impressive.

I don’t care for new trek but a fan of the older stuff. What franchise are you a fan of?

I am a nerd without a franchise. Everything I once loved has been destroyed by the woke mafia. I once lived and breathed Star Wars, but now I can’t stand to even think about it after what they did. Same for Halo, loved it, and they destroyed it. I always looked at Firefly as a mercy killing because, despite its great potential, Whedon would have eventually destroyed it. I’m just not to invested in much anymore. I guess the closest thing I’ve got now is Battle Angel Alita, the only comic book I ever read. I fear we won’t get another film, and if we do Disney will wreck it, I’m sure.

I feel your pain. I love the Star Wars expanded universe. At this point I pretty much read and watch old stuff. Never played Halo but that trailer screamed current year. I want to get the Alita Manga

I remember being a preteen in the mid nineties before the prequel trilogy was announced…hell, before the special edition even came out, hanging on every word of the EU books. Back when I honestly believed we’d never get another Star Wars movie, I must’ve read Zahn and Anderson’s books a dozen times.

Alita is great, some of it gets a little out there, but I think that might just be the nature of Japanese comics, I’m not sure. There are three Alita series, I think the third one is still ongoing. Anywho, the first series seems to have been localized twice, the first time was pretty faithful to the original work. Unfortunately that one is out of print and has been for a while. The second localization was poorly translated, and while it doesn’t seem to be malicious woke meddling in someone else’s work, the poor translation seems to cause some sharp changes to the story. And naturally that version is all that is in print.

So it would seem that if you want the original, faithful, localization you will have to either find a second hand copy in print, or pirate it. I don’t condone piracy because I believe the mangaka that created Alita should get paid, but the US distributor has kind of hamstrung the fans.

I don’t mind the prequels but like you I thought the future of star wars was novels. I kinda wish it would’ve stayed that way. So many Disney Star Wars fans are normies

It's pleasant but it doesn't feel Trekish to me. It's a little spiritual for a Trek project. As I said elsewhere it gave me "Lost" finale vibes, and I liked that, but Lost was a very spiritual show. Star Trek was not a spiritual show.

It's not very Star Trek-y. It gave me vibes of the "Lost" finale, which I'm in the minority of liking.

I actually loved the LOST finale. Thought it was beautiful to see them enter the afterlife together. I guess it was nice to see those two after Nutrek has crapped all over the previous stuff

I loved it too, so many people shit on it. It would have been nice to have seen Bones in there to really connect the big three back together.

Did you see the LOST epilogue? I used to want them to do more shows based on that island but not anymore (would be a race/lgbt/feminist allegory). I actually saw a lot of Christian symbolism and that one dude’s walking staff had scriptures on it that went along with the show. I have a LOST book I got at a book sale and a dharma initiative uniform.

Totally agree about Bones. I do love acknowledgement of an afterlife but I have to see the ending of Undiscovered Country was a beautiful sendoff

The comics get weird. Lots of meeting alternate versions of themselves. I'm looking at a book where the X-Men and ST:TNG crew meet.
