Babe wake up, new Legend of the Galactic Heroes subtitle meme template just dropped
I really hope this meme format takes off.
No love for Age of Mythology, anyone?
I admit it wasn't the best, but I still enjoyed what I played of it, at the time...
In like, 2006 or something, that is, lol...
mythology was nice, because the basic units didn't all look exactly the same.
The only real gripe I had was they only used three mythologies (and one of them twice if you count the titans expansion....)
I really dislike the trend of hyper HD full details with teams dedicated to spend months on crafting extremely detailed art on every bit of clothes of all units / character... and then you zoom out to actually play and the units all look similar.
Example : Frostpunk. Looks fantastic! When you want to destroy / rebuild your city, it gets very confusing. So where the fuck is my medical post? My engeneer shop? All buildings look too similar when zoomed out. Absolutely fantastic to look at though.
Abstract example2 : Three female characters with black hair tied in slightly diffrent, very elaborate ways. Took tons of work. Zoom out and they all look the same.
Counter-example : heavy use of brighly-colored hair to help distinguish characters.
Generally in Frostpunk you should be building districts to house all those similar buildings away from the housing to maximize Steam hubs effectiveness. Which minimizes the trouble of confusing them.
The real "took much work for no gain" in that game is the highly elaborate day to day life system your people go through, despite you having minimal ability to actually control it. All you can do is build (and destroy) roads in a certain way to force their travel paths and that's about it.
I'm not saying they have to be heavily detailed, but some sort of differentiation would be nice. As an example, it's a little weird to have Japanese villagers that look like medieval peasants living in buildings from somewhere in Czechoslovakia, lol. it kinda throws off the immersion a bit is all I'm saying.
Yea it was fun twist on AoE, even got the boardgame for it (plays nothing like the computer game), haha
The Reloaded version is on Steam and it’s fun still. Not too happy they sold the extra version with campaigns that won’t be available for many months though.
They remade it recently and it's quite good. Pretty much exactly what one would want out of a remake, a direct upgrade of the original.
3 was right out. Then they all got HD editions and even Super HD editions.
3 was fun, on single player. As allurus said, I'm not sure how well the multiplayer worked. But I didn't mind the plot/storyline of single player.
It was a bit... Odd (incongruous?), in comparison to the first two, but I still enjoyed it for what it was, personally. And the story has stuck with me more than most of AoE2, at this point, tbh...
I'll be the heretic. I actually enjoyed 3. Never played it (or any RTS, really) in a PvP multiplayer format, and can see potential issues there depending on home city levels, but the way artillery in 3 is very satisfying.
AOE 4 was when they changed all the hot keys. That pissed me off. Not sure I like that version
Play 0 A.D. on Ubuntu instead- you can actually capture enemy structures and occupy them, there's actual economic incentives for invasion.
Colonization has been decent enough economic incentive. The New World expansion they released in 1492 just cemented that even more.
