Maybe? I generally consider a purity spiral an internal mechanism for maintaining order in an organization, though I would accept the use of third parties as tools to maintain that order.
Unless the Left are, to use a phrase, "actively feeding" members to the Islamists as a punishment for being less pure, then the two groups just working together would not count.
