The US hasn't been in a formal war, yes. We've been in constant actual war for as long as any of us have been alive. We've just always had the world's biggest moat between home base and the enemy, so we haven't felt the effects at home.
People wouldn't be nearly on the "clean war" idea as much if "war" in the modern era wasn't built as an emotional sob fest.
If Israel or Ukraine, or really any country, wants to play the "uwu I'm just a soft little baby trying to live and they are bullying me!" they can't be on camera killing children, laughing about how awesome their weapons are, and showing themselves to be aggressors that heavily.
War isn't clean, but the way many western countries wage war is far nicer than what other countries usually go with. I don't consider Israel to be a western country, but their self-restrictions seem to be more typical of the west, contrasted to any of their opponents.

I'm just stating objective facts, can remember a nice 4 years where we DIDN'T have civilian collateral damage to kill one guy.
It was more 'fuck that guy in particular' during that time which was nice.
