Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, and Neil Young have been LIFE LONG Leftists. It's never been up for debate, it's every song they've ever written, it's how they got to fame.
It is not possible for anyone to be surprised besides the ignorant.
However, I don't think these journalists don't understand that Zoomers and Alpha have no idea who these people are. Either Boomers, or Leftist acolytes of Boomers are trying to remake 1968 over and over again, failing to realize that the 60's and 70's were never the victory they pretend it was, and it gets further and further away from memory.
He made generic rock with no edge that was perfectly catered for normie radio stations. His sound is the kind of shit an AI would put out. He wasn't famous because he was good. He was famous because he was marketable.
I really couldn't remember him to be honest, put his name in YouTube and went 'oh, the Born in the USA guy, I prefer Johnny Cash'
Granted I'm listening to this nowadays so probably not the target market but he have any sway at all as ALL celebrities have lost influence since 2020 or this more an empty virtue signal?
Celebrities, especially musical ones, have basically destroyed themselves as a concept. The internet allowed access to diverse taste, and so everyone has a separate niche. This means that there's no shared pop music experience. It's not just that celebrities lost influence because they are wildly out of touch narcissists, it's that you can't have celebrities anymore.
The very idea of a song called "Born in the USA" that isn't dripping with scorn and ridicule is anathema to modern leftists. The fact that he sings it unironically is enough to mark him as a Republican in their books.

I would've thought that he had TDS
Bruce Springsteen has always sucked. I don't know how anyone ever liked his noise. Can't sing and I really don't see any value in his band.

Yea, as long as I can remember he has always supported democrats. About as surprising as Lebron being a democrat

He's been a left-wing darling for basically his entire career. Anyone legitimately surprised by this seriously needs their head examined.
Bruce Springsteen is how liberals think blue collar guys are
