Fuck Weinstein, but let's not forget that Miyazaki is a literal Communist. Princess Mononoke would now be considered "woke" if released in 2024 under someone else's name.
Capable male tames savage wolf girl and helps save her and her forest which would have been lost without him. Woman in charge of town because she leads the whore house and makes the most money. Yeah crazy woke.
Both main women are psychos hell bent on destroying each other until the man comes in and stops them through force. Man makes consistent sacrifices earning the respect of everyone around him by being the pillar they rely on.

I don't think this would happen actually. Female anime characters don't usually cause a row, no matter how powerful, because people can see there's no agenda behind them.
Also, the corrupting effects of the musket balls shouldn't be seen as woke politics. Instead of taking a specific point and contriving the story to hammer it down, Miyazaki takes a point and universalizes it through symbolism so that it separates from the crude moorings of reality and provokes emotion and introspection from many angles. One of those angles, of course, is the environment, but human industry does sometimes damage nature and that subject does deserve consideration and restraint.
Honestly I don't care about the political beliefs of an individual as long as they're not preaching about it in their works. Of course his personal beliefs flow into his works, that is almost impossible to avoid. I've not watched every single one of his films but the worst offender I've personally watched was The Wind Rises and that one still doesn't come close to the average western production. Native Japanese might see that different though.
He's a great artist and for that I respect him even if he's not exactly a great person in private.
Yes. It's been awhile since I've seen that one but the anti-imperial Japan sentiment was pretty on the nose if I recall correctly. At least for Miyazaki standards.
I was once told that "Shin Godzilla could only have been made by a Japanese nationalist that got over himself"--that is, he wasn't a nationalist anymore.
Haven't seen the movie, so I don't know how true that is.
But to tie that into the above, Hideaki Anno did that one.

Never watched it, so its like, what? A slice of life anime based on the real world?
It’s an epic based heavily on Japanese mythology and the change from natures gods and demons controlling man to man’s control over nature.

The Wind Rises? Isn't that the one where he cast Hideaki fucking Anno in the lead role?
Anno is brilliant, but as an actor?

Some people here prefer communists over any Jew.
