I don't get open border libertarians. I thought one of the most basic tenets of libertarianism was the establishment of private property, how you going to have that with no borders
Spoiler: They're leftists. Any "open border libertarian" is, without fault, going to care more about leftist causes like "diversity" and "tolerance" (in the lefty sense) than they do about liberty and freedom.
Putting aside the subversion of the libertarian movement, this sort of libertarian is at least moderately better than a standard leftist, since they at least think they care about freedom...but don't get the wrong idea; these are still leftist ideologs.
It's the Libertarians+chamber of commerce+Koch Bros business alliance. The idea that any human should be free to move wherever they want... and a businessman should be free to hire whomever he wants, even for slave wages. Ignore all negative consequences.
I imagine they think you'd have borders between your land and your neighbor's land but no government borders because there would be barely any government, if at all. They think that the planet can just be a bunch of homesteads and everyone will play nice.
Libertarianism only "works" when there's a frontier and every conflict can be resolved by one party being forced to move along.
In theory, you can. It would mean that someone from Senegal can buy up the house next to yours and go live there. It's not exactly a violation of private property rights. I guess they'd probably even say that NOT having open borders is a violation of property rights, because American citizens would have greater right to enjoy their private property than those who are not.
Open border libertarians are short-sighted individuals who do not understand the need for preemptive defence. The first requirement of a libertarian state is that it is able to defend its libertarianism - if China can skip the One Child Policy by sending all their surplus population to the United States, you'll soon find you've been outvoted and are now a Chinese vassal state.
