I put "conversations" in scare quotes because I'm obviously not referring to actual conversations. I don't know what word I should use to describe what I'm talking about, but I'm using this one since I've often seen it used in this context. What I actually mean is some dumb controversy that by rights no one should give a fuck about becomes a hot topic in the media/on social media, and then some retard journalist announces that there's a "conversation" happening around the topic or that the topic has "entered the national conversation". Sometimes it's obviously astroturfed (anything having to do with masculinity is a prime example of this) but it often legitimately goes viral thanks to the general population's room temperature IQ. Just to give an idea of what I'm talking about, here are some particularly vapid examples:
-
The leggings "conversation" that popped up several times over the last decade in various forms.
-
A few years back some social media addicted losers questioned if a gift some celebrity bought her granddaughter was age appropriate, and retards in the media decided to report on the "controversy" since "it's between her and the parents so we should leave it alone" was too sane of a stance.
-
There was apparently a retarded crew vs ankle socks debate that I didn't know or care to know about until my local radio station's idiot host announced that Gen Z "resolved it" and that he was disappointed that his side "lost". For a dude in his 30's or 40s he takes this crap awfully seriously.
I know I should just file this under "stupid normie shit", but don't people have anything more interesting to focus on? Why does anyone give a fuck about any of this? I at least understand the obsession with political stuff since it actually affects people's lives (or it will if the commies get their way). But leggings? Socks? I was going to ask why our culture is so fucking vapid, but I know it's because we let women and their stupid drama poison it. The whole thing needs to be burned to the ground.
I remember a leftist holding a "conversation" over lunch at work once. In the middle of the lecture, they outed themselves as not even abiding by one of their own talking points, followed by shrugging it off like it was funny.
Almost all of lunch conversation at work is uninteresting fluff anyway...though it's nice to have someone at the table with a sense of humor who knows it's fluff and takes it into silly places that people on soapboxes don't know how to deal with.
I think the concern I have about that is at some point you have to let the kid go, so if they've been hidden off from everything for their entire life, once they discover the whore life, are they any less likely to go to it? You'd basically have to be Amish to have any chance where you have a community and you strive to keep them in it forever.
That used to be the "repressed Catholic schoolgirl are the biggest sluts" trope long before clown world took over.
Though I don't that really carried over to the Amish for whatever reason.
How much of that was real and how much of that was pushed by pornographers? 30 years from now, people are going to think we were all fucking our step-siblings.
What? Why would a certain demographic of pornographers have a specific hatred for Christians?
The term you're looking for is "struggle session."
Came here to post this. The actual name for what OP is talking about is pretty well documented
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Struggle_session
Technology allows the regime to have "struggle sessions" with the masses every single day, and will focus down to an individual wherever required (to inspire fear) - It's really simple when you see it for what it is.
That describes the more political stuff for sure, but a lot of what I'm talking about is just inane bullshit that does more to degrade the people participating in it than any member of the outgroup.
you forgot the tidepods challenge that the 'journalists' actually turned into a problem, lmao.
The meme was already dying, and then a local tv news outfit ran with the story, turning it into a national 'crisis,' and then some kid who would have never even seen the meme actually tried to eat one...
I just received a company-wide email from our DEIB committee chair reminding everybody that conversations in the company #social-* Slack channels should try to steer away from controversial political topics.
This after they (the DEIB committee) send out political garbage like pride/black history month propaganda, Juneteenth celebrations, or women's day nonsense.
Of course, when they do it they're just being good people. You are the one introducing political strife into their beautiful, inclusive conversations.
Me as well.
Not so much as "ended" but definitely no longer pursued. Not interested in being around that nonsense.
Same here. Steam/game friends I've had since ~2009 suddenly updating their status to "die mad righty" out of nowhere, and seemingly directed at no one in particular. I dropped them like a hot potato without so much as a "smell ya later." I do not understand what possesses someone to do that, and interacting with anyone who does is the last thing I want to deal with.
Forever children at their finest in most respects to think this stuff warrants debate. I wear whatever the hell socks I want, there is no debate or conversation. Don't think I'm trendy enough? Great, I appreciate the compliment. Adults do not subscribe to the concept that something needs whatever this definition of a conversation is.
It applies to the leggings and age-appropriateness thing too. From what little I've managed to notice from young girls, nothing given to them is age appropriate, because their actions are nothing more than those of budding whores. Even the ones that seem to be on the better end would have been sluts 20 years ago. The only "conversation" should be their parents telling them that no daughter of theirs will dress or act like a whore.
The only people that want those conversion-sations are those with the ability to control them.
"We need to talk about MAP!" censors all discussion except one side "Oh, would you look at that, child rape is a human right after all."
"we need to start a conversation..."
"at least it started a conversation, doesn't matter that it was untrue, it started a necessary conversation..."
No he doesn't. He plays a part that pretends to care because driving engagement is just as much a thing for radio as it is for clickbait. "Keep listening and we'll have people to call in to argue about if the dress is blue/black or white/gold!" It's the broadcast equivalent of, "let me know in the comments."
I thought of that possibility as well, but I kinda doubted he would fake being such a pathetic loser. It wasn't even one of those debates where people call in. He just brought it up as "oh by the way" thing when he was going over some tabloid news between songs.
Let's be fair here. Sportsball discussion is equally vapid and dominant in our culture, but you don't see anyone shitting on men for it. Women aren't the only guilty party here.
No argument about sportsball discussion being tedious as fuck, but it seems more contained than this crap. Maybe I'm just exposed to the wrong media, but the feminine side of the problem seems to be way more indiscriminate in where it spews its shit.
