This is insanely draconian. European Union is planning to have constituents register *all* their assets. (twitter.com)

Only sort of. They used the old socialist logic of "hoarding". So if you save too much money and don't spend it, you're actually a capitalist that's hurting people.

So, as they increased political violence, they increased outgoing taxes. I think at one point it was taking around the equivalent of $350,000 to get out of Germany for a family. Which, yeah, meant literally selling every single thing you own.

Important to remember that leftists genuinely believe that rich people hoard money in huge Scrooge McDuck vaults for no reason other than a desire to make things worse for poor folks.

That's actually where the Scrooge McDuck vault comes from. It's a literal Leftist stereotype of a capitalist. In fact, he represents the Scottish-American financier and innovator class of the Gilded Age. They absolutely believed that people saving money was depriving the community of wealth and hurting people. This is why you needed a system of taxes to revoke that concealed property and re-distribute it to the poor. Every state, axis & allies, in WW2 attacked "hoarders" who weren't buying enough bonds or turning in gold. The Fascists, Nazis, and Communists all went further than the west, but they all demanded the ending of privately saving money. It's the basis of Keynesian Economics (which is a Socialist economic policy).

I think they're really just mad that they aren't the ones with the vaults. Everything they believe is downstream from that.
