God, I love 10 minute youtube videos on a piece of information that can be expressed in a single image
Some just want it more
I always appreciate when the people posting it here at least give the entire information needed in their titles.
Not to give these jerks ammunition, but in Dragonball Z, at least the dub I watched on TV back in the day from whatever company did that, they did mention saiyan tribes a few times. Not much though. I had to assume by tribe they meant more or less a caste society. Warriors, craftsmen, statesmen, poets, etc. It was never really explained what was meant by tribes on the show. Just that there were tribes.
It later became the saiyan race once the planet was destroyed, and they stopped calling it a tribe at that point. My guess would be that it didn't really matter what tribe you were from if the planet you lived on didn't exist and neither did your tribe. You were all brothers in a nearly extinct race at that point. But I'm speculating.
I only have this info fresh in mind because I'm converting old recorded VHS tapes I did in the 90s for weekend cartoons to digitize them. And I'm checking the quality and what I have to edit, and hopefully make slightly better by running it through filter programs, because the VHS tapes are fading pretty quick, because I used shitty tapes and the extra long play that makes the quality even worse.
I was not a smart kid.
Early Dragon Ball dubbing was basically making random shit up and a lot of it makes zero sense.
Original English dub said that Bardock was a "great scientist" who invented the Fake Moon Ball Vegeta uses to transform into an ape. Which makes less than zero sense because I'm fairly certain the literal Bardock movie was already out at the time and available to prove he was a meathead warrior.
No information we had available through the entire run of DBZ showed that Saiyans were capable of or had anything but warriors, afaik. It wasn't until Dragon Ball Minus (a literal piece of shit Toriyama cranked out to steal Bardock for himself) that we saw it was even possible to not be a mercenary or warrior on their planet.
It wasn't until like mid-Freiza that they started to get somewhat close to the original text in a general sense. Which is also when Vegeta, a guy who would know better than anyone, started saying "a warrior race" constantly and never mentioned a single other type of Saiyan (until his brother in a special not everyone Toriyama cared to reference).
I think the original Broly movie showed the most likely scenario. That they would enslave other weaker races to do all the work for them.
are you uploading that anywhere? love watching that kind of stuff although it's best through an actual vcr and CRT TV
Tribes are traditionally hyperextended family units, united by blood, language, and culture. Bands within those tribes are basically bloodlines within the larger tribe ("Houses", in Shakespeare-speak.) Neighbouring tribes might have similar beliefs and language, but there will be differences that caused a tribal split sometime back in the distant past. That's how evolution works, those differences are the seeds of new subspecies (races) and eventually, species.
Can you recommend a good A/V adaptor for PC? I was using a cheap RCA->USB from amazon that was finnicky but worked until I changed motherboards and now it does nothing.
I'm in the same boat you are friend. It's a direct raw from VCR to a little TV capture card on an older PC I keep around for ancient games and things just like this. A finicky as all hell setup, but I have nothing else that works for old tech.
However, if I do come across something, I'll be sure to mention it.

works great but not cheap
