This has LONG been a thing as we can all remember that college event where white girls were wearing kimonos and the left were screaming 'CULTURAL APPROPRIATION!!' while ACTUAL Japanese people were saying it looked good on them.
They don't want cultural sharing and appreciation to be standard as that might get white Westerners to FINALLY look at their history and learn that they used to be really kick ass and great and should celebrate that more. They only support media where the more advanced civilization is being denigrated by a third world outsider as they want to blackpill the western natives to submission while they think the more primitive third worlders are easier to control.

There's a similar story about some white college girls wearing qipaos and getting cancelled for it, while Chinese people loved seeing Americans appreciate their culture.
