Most likely. I haven't used rental scooters before but my experience with rental bikes was that you had to return them to designated spots and they would check that via GPS before releasing your booking
The scooter has GPS so that the company can track where they are. You don't rent a lime a scooter from a shop they're just laying all over the street, so if you want one you scan a QR code on the app, connect to their GPS and Bluetooth and the scooter unlocks. Then when you're done you just leave it anywhere you want and disconnect from the app and the scooter locks up.
Unless of course the lime scooters have some sort of tracking tech in them
Yes that is in fact a basic part of how they function and how their business model works. Probably shouldn't speak definitively that something "doesn't" have something if you don't know the most basic thing about it.
I hate to be stupid but how does it know
I think gps tracking is my guess.

My follow up question is this, is someone monitoring the gps signal in real time?
Considering how many scooters they have out there probably not. I'm sure they could though if they wanted to.

But then it wouldn't be a Lethn post.
Brings a smile to my face
Damn, I was about to say the same exact thing, haha.
If I was running a transportation rental service, I’d probably GPS tag all my stuff.
I might ask if you thought before you made that post, but I realised I already knew the answer.
