To be honest, it shouldn't surprise you that much. Lesser developed nations have heavily invested in drones and cyber since it requires much more capital to invest in other warfare assets.
Despite loosing quickly to Russia, Georgia conducted major cyber-attacks on Russia to try and cripple it's energy, banking, and telecom infrastructure. North Korea is well known for conducting major cyber-based financial thefts in order to help fund the regime. A whole portion of India's economy is built off of over-the-phone scams and internet malware (which can translate into espionage and sabotage).
Because smaller nations can support cyber-warfare with smaller economies, it becomes a valuable asset if they focus on it hard enough.
Gazorbeam, you're a good guy and I like you, so don't take this personally. I don't think you're dishonest, but in this case, you've fallen victim to confirmation bias of something that fit your priors.
But can't you see that this is an obvious attack on an alternative news source, the Gray Zone, which has been pointing out facts that the regime and the Washington Post do not like? This is a literal bingo of regime propaganda:
some twink working for the neocon American Enterprise Institute and advocating for regime change in Syria.
The same people who refused to cover the Hunter Biden laptop, because it was 'hacked', now gleefully report 'hacked materials'.
For that matter, why do you post some AEI twink's spinning of the Washington Post lies, not the lies themselves?
From the article:
Records refer to payments to Reed of $3,600, $1,690, and 210 euros, now worth about $225.
This is coming from the same people who oppose a Georgia law that requires NGOs to disclose when they receive more than 20% of their income from foreign sources. This is less than a pittance of what the Western powers spend to manipulate the media and politics of other countries, with billions having been spent in Ukraine alone. The execrable Victoria Nuland has bragged about the US spending 5 billion dollars in Ukraine alone to undermine the c..., ahem, promote democracy.
For that matter, Wyatt Reed has never hidden his work for Press TV. This is a non-story. There is no 'revelation'. And it has absolutely nothing to do with his current work at the Gray Zone. It turns out that he was anti-Israel and critical of the United States when contributing to an Iranian news source... exactly as he was before and after.
“What you are reporting is, I think, the most practical example of that convergence we’ve seen, where you have someone who has deep ties to Iranian state media working for an organization that we also know is a destination for narrative laundering from Russia,” said Emerson Brooking, co-director of the Atlantic Council’s Digital Forensics Research Lab.
Somehow the nation that is home to half the worlds tech companies is losing to a bunch of goat hoarders in the cybersecurity arena.
Not only that but you are repeating literal CIA propaganda from the WaPo, which is just one of their front organizations.
Why do I even bother. The OP is Gazerbeam, an Israeli operative.

You JIDF still seething that Iran is one of the few countries that isn't controlled by Rothschild bankers?
All they had to do was pay Iran their damn oil royalties.
How are breaking_news.jpg and demoralization.jpg related? Cousins? Brothers? I'm betting on gay lovers.
Post Reported for: Rule 12 - Disinformation
I don't see why yet.

NATO's "think tank" funded by the British government and Goldman Sachs makes wild accusations. Shocker.
You're kidding! Thousands of dollars?! That's a hell of a lot of money, right there! I'd sell my own soul for thousands of dollars!
