Lots of good ideas from the last post, a Rocky theme week is a good idea, classic detective movies is another. The post for Memorial Day makes the most sense for the initial run. Normally we do a time/day vote but I’m thinking of a small change where I throw up 4 movies in the queue on Saturday starting at either 12pm, 2 pm, or 4 pm eastern (utc -5). Vote for the time block and what 4 films you want in the block in the order you want them to appear (in example: 2pm eastern, movies 6, 4, 1, 3) if you would like to add a movie not listed ascribe a double digit number to your recommendation (I.e. 24) and I will do my best to add it if it is popular through upvotes. The list I’m currently thinking of is:
-
Flags of our Fathers (2006)
-
Sergeant York (1941)
-
The Big Red One (1980)
-
They Were Expendable (1945)
-
Patton (1970)
-
The Longest Day (1962)
-
Merrill's Marauders (1962)
-
The Steel Helmet (1951)
-
The Thin Red Line (1998)
As a John Wayne fan, 4 and 6 sound fun. I could change my mind later, but for now I'll vote:
12pm eastern 4, 6, 5, 8
I actually saw Stagecoach for the first time ever 2 weeks ago
Letters From Iwo Jima (a much better film than Flags of Our Fathers)
Kelly's Heroes
12 O'clock High
They Shall Not Grow Old
Casualties of War
Although I agree Letters from Iwo Jima was better than Flags of our fathers, they need to be watched together as seeing the same battle from the different perspectives REALLY adds to both stories.
5 for sure. How could you forget Strategic Air Commabd? I demand Air Force representation lol. Kidding
I haven't seen Sergeant York, Merrill's Marauders and The Steel Helmet.
So I'm voting for Merrill's Marauders.
Great to see the movie club back!
Also, if anyone knows a better up-loader for cytube aside from bitchute I can do the full 1080 uploads. From all my understanding bitchute only streams at 480 and has a 2 gig limit on all files. So I’ll handbrake the file for bitchute, but I’m sure everyone would appreciate the full resolution better.
Not at all accurate to their real last mission, but a pretty light film for a war movie with an uplifting feel.
How about Paths of Glory for some more WW1 drama?
Paths of Glory is a great, yet underappreciated movie. We know that WW2 got the all the love from Hollywood (((I wonder why that is))), and the worst side of it is how WW1 movies were sidelined for most of the 20th century
Nice! I never got that on my list somehow when I've pushed back into older moved, so it's on the list 100% now. WW1 history and the lead up to it is not often enough given attention.
