Lots of good ideas from the last post, a Rocky theme week is a good idea, classic detective movies is another. The post for Memorial Day makes the most sense for the initial run. Normally we do a time/day vote but I’m thinking of a small change where I throw up 4 movies in the queue on Saturday starting at either 12pm, 2 pm, or 4 pm eastern (utc -5). Vote for the time block and what 4 films you want in the block in the order you want them to appear (in example: 2pm eastern, movies 6, 4, 1, 3) if you would like to add a movie not listed ascribe a double digit number to your recommendation (I.e. 24) and I will do my best to add it if it is popular through upvotes. The list I’m currently thinking of is:
-
Flags of our Fathers (2006)
-
Sergeant York (1941)
-
The Big Red One (1980)
-
They Were Expendable (1945)
-
Patton (1970)
-
The Longest Day (1962)
-
Merrill's Marauders (1962)
-
The Steel Helmet (1951)
-
The Thin Red Line (1998)
Paths of Glory is a great, yet underappreciated movie. We know that WW2 got the all the love from Hollywood (((I wonder why that is))), and the worst side of it is how WW1 movies were sidelined for most of the 20th century
Nice! I never got that on my list somehow when I've pushed back into older moved, so it's on the list 100% now. WW1 history and the lead up to it is not often enough given attention.
