Lotus Eaters has a video ( LINK ) discussing "What is Wrong with the Left?", and they led with a study I hadn't seen before

From the article:
“I was very surprised that the level of liberal bias against conservatives was nearly three times greater than was conservative bias toward liberals,” Ridge said. “This is directly the opposite of what ideological asymmetry would predict. I was also surprised that given this result, liberal participants claimed that conservatives were much more prejudiced than liberals, whereas conservatives did not attribute any more prejudice to liberals than to conservatives. This is contrary to much popular opinion about liberals and conservatives in popular media and in the empirical literature.”
I am not personally surprised by this, as I am aware of previous studies that show the left really doesn't know all that much about conservatives in general, and do a really bad job at generalizing conservative ideas. I think this stems from the way the left is able to totally insulate themselves in an information bubble due to the overall heavy leftward bias in all cultural institutions.
My crazy aunt gave my family the "gay people are just like you" speech out of nowhere one time simply because churchgoer, conservative. Another relative (centrist liberal) had to tell her "they know that already." (I don't actually "know" this, but we all understand.)
In her case we've tried to talk to her several times, but she's seemingly impervious to reason. She'll ignore factual details and reiterate some hippy boomer pablum about corporations or the Pentagon Papers or Harvey Milk. I think she has some kind of existential need to justify her dissolute lifestyle that makes her phobic of serious reflection, and this is probably the case for many left wingers.
Somewhat relevant...
Last year when the topic of sexually themed material in schools was one of the hottest topics, Charles Barkley was seen speaking at a gathering of some kind. He said something like, "Man, if you want to be gay then be be gay. Don't let these idiots get you down."
I forgot the exact context but it was clear he was addressing the school issue and the parents who were working to keep the smut out of schools. Those parents were the idiots he was referring to.
I wish someone there had one of the books and could have put it in his face and ask if elementary school kids should be seeing pictures and reading about butt sex and other debauchery.
He was so sure of himself and yet he was so far off topic. It's just another example of the liberal bubble. They don't want their supporters to see what's really happening.
Most of the meetings I've reported on don't allow you to present the images being depicted in these "children's" books due to decency concerned. They know full well what they are doing and are unwilling to change to reflect reality.
"gay people just like you, they just walk around with shit on their dick and have aids"
Boomers weren't reasoned into their positions on issues so you're not going to reason them out of them. You're arguing directly with cable news.
Lol... I wish this wasn't so true
Upvote for "pablum." Great word.
That shows a problem for both the left and the right. Our side rightfully points out the left has no knowledge of the right. But these studies also show the right has no knowledge of the left. Conservatives attribute no prejudice to the left, when they should immediately assume the left is biased. What both sides are actually doing is projecting their own behavior on the other. The right doesn't really believe in anything, wants peace and safety above all else, and has no will to fight, so it projects that onto the left. The left is dogmatic, filled with unhappy people, and is constantly looking for a reason for conflict. So it projects that upon the right.
Not going to lie, you had me in the first half. Going to have to update my thinking on this one.
to summarize: the right thinks the left is retarded so we shouldn't take them seriously, the left thinks the right is evil so any harm they commit against us is justified
guess which side keeps winning
"A rich man thinks all other people are rich, and an intelligent man thinks all other people are similarly gifted. Both are always terribly shocked when they discover the truth of the world." - Strahd von Zarovich
Conservatives : "Killing babies is evil, therefore abortion should be illegal."
Liberals : "Conservatives are just mysogynists who want to control women's bodies to opress them."
Me : stop killing White babies because demographics is destiny and whatever luxury belief I or you hold won't survive a black and brown majority.
context is king
on this site you can tell the truth
on twitter you stick with the currently within-overton high ground position because that is what moves the zeitgeist in our direction
A simple search of word usage of the isms, what papers use them the most, and who they associate the isms with has shown this to be the trend since the late 90s/ early 2000s. The former head of NPR going moderate after actually spending times with conservatives was another example of this. Liberals are by their very nature the “useful idiots” whose dogmatism makes Imams jealous.
"Liberal" and "Conservative" are two entirely made up end points with about as much meaning as "Thumbs Up" and "Thumbs Down" on youtube. Which is precisely why they were created that way, operate the way they do, and why fake intellectual conversations form around them the way they do.
People are formed by their experiences in reality, and rarely is this fake dichotomy ever present, so nowhere is anyone actually a total "liberal" or "conservative." Unless they're yelling about something online for fake points or to manipulate people which is the only forum they'd have any real function in anyways.
These studies always seem like "tell me what I want to hear" tripe anyways.
the primordial linchpin choice is "serve God" or "reject God, and serve yourself"
everything else is downstream from that decision
there are actions/attitudes/decisions that appear to straddle the line from a distance but once you drill down you will see they are either on one side or the other
There's nothing primordial about that. You have to be taught about God first, people are not born with an innate sense of their creator, nor any knowledge of the stories surrounding any particular branch of religion.
You might just be describing "altruism" vs "hedonism" in different terms.
In any case.. people assemble all kinds of beliefs about themselves.. but when you put the screws to them, you find out just how many of them they're willing to abandon in a heartbeat.
The primordial line between the modern world is those who have been to this place and those who haven't.
I’m curious if there is a correlation to this and social media usage.
Seems obvious to me.
Funny thing about when the ruling power doesn't like a group, they, shock of shocks, demonize them, and given they're the group in power, there's no check or stopper to prevent excess hate, unlike the weaker, demonized group, which has significant incentive to play nice, lest they get merc'd.
What's going to be their next big landmark study? In Uighur concentration camps in China, it will be found that the Chinese act upon the thought that the Uighurs are less moral then Han Chinese? Incredible! Who could've seen it coming?!
