It does impact the conclusion. It's not automatically bad to try to fight for something that may be difficult to achieve. However, when banning abortion is way more likely and it would hurt your 'main cause', it is pretty ridiculous to hold that position. You are far more likely to succeed in your fight against abortion, and if you do, it would hurt what you view as more important.
