Because after the wall came down, we didn't find any punish the Stazi. They're the EU now, for all intents and purposes.
The problem is you can't punish half the population.
Sure you can. In fact it's a simple task.
The real problem is that "nice" is prioritized higher than doing the right thing. That's why the wicked aren't fearful anymore.
That's why "nice" is going to go away.
Former West Germany is way more pozzed than former East Germany, liberal soft subversion is way more effective than totalitarian repression.
Although you're right, plenty of "former" Stasi members would go on to shape EU policy towards wrongthink. So now Europe is getting more and more complementary hard repression with its soft subversion.
