I don't think there is anyone out there that the deep state fears as much as Trump. Trump's insurance against assassination isn't the VP anyway. It's the tens of millions of fanatical supporters who would launch a civil war.
I think they'd fear RFK Jr. more. But he doesn't have as much of a base as Trump.
As for his supporters, so far, they've done nothing as Trump and other Trump supporters have been persecuted. Now, I'm not saying this is bad, because the regime would bring overwhelming force to bear on them if they did. But I don't see them doing anything, let alone a civil war - no more than supporters of the Gracchi did.

Which is just slightly different than assassinating him. They may be delusional about winning through the courts, but I doubt any of them think he could be lawyered back to life.
And what exactly would they do if he were assassinated? They'd say: "well, what's the point now, he's gone anyway". As it is, Trump supporters call every protest on behalf of Trump a federal action intended to entrap his supporters (which some may well be), so I'm not exactly underestimating their rationalizations aimed at saving their own skin.
