I don't know how common this will get but if I was in that situation in any professional capacity and I saw a blatant diversity hire taking care of such a serious aspect of safety among other things I would sincerely just get up and leave. It is one of those things where it's a question of, get called names by the left or your life and I know which one I'd pick.
Its been a while, but if I recall a lot of them had just got up and left the set already because the low safety standard didn't just happen in this one instant. It was a constant looming threat and most of them had already bailed over it.
You are correct. They already had accidental discharges and were shooting off live rounds between filming for fun. Pretty much the entire union crew walked off set and they had to bring in non union workers.
You say that but the human condition is to just go along with it and not cause a stir.
Imagine this scenario: You book a trip to Europe with your gf/wife. You take 3 weeks off from work. You tell everyone about your amazing trip you've planned. You're excited to go. You walk on the plane and the pilot is a black woman and the copilot is a Hispanic man who looks a little gay. What do you do?
By all accounts you should just turn 180 degrees and catch another flight but would you actually? A lot of people say precisely what you say but I actually don't think most people would actually cancel what they're up to.
Hollywood is even worse. Unless you're Mel Gibson, turning down the legacy diversity hire (daughter of someone from the industry) specifically because she's a woman and you don't trust her in that role is going to blackball you from the whole industry. You more than likely would grit your teeth at it and maybe double check the weapons yourself but you probably wouldn't tell the producers to hire a new weapon's checker.
Conservatives are all talk when it comes to not dealing with diversity hires. I bet half of them complaining have a doctor, dentist, banker, accountant or some other professional in their life who is nothing more than a diversity hire yet it's super easy to only hire white men for professional roles.
it's super easy to only hire white men for professional roles
Do you mean as a customer? Because it's super not easy to only hire White men if you're a business. In fact if you only hire White men you're probably going to get a giant lawsuit courtesy of the bolsheviks in Washington and get sent to assrape prison for 20 years because Shandussy felt discriminated against despite turning in a job application that was blank except for her name.
Some cranky old dude who watches fox news all day and talks about how foreigners and women are destroying America probably has some Filipino woman manage his investments.
It be nice to tell you you are wrong. The fact is living within a pure in-group preference would be inconvenient and lead to harassment. It's easier to go along to get along.
That's a fair point, I will point out though I'm somebody who at the very least did not get the covid jab and definitely got shat on for it by people I knew. Funny how they've memory holed that behaviour big time now all the data has come out, I won't forget it. I am sympathetic to the issue of, if it literally costs you your ability to work in the industry yeah. At the same time though I do think the larpers on social media deserve to be mocked.
If it means anything, I actually think given your posting style that you might in fact turn 180 degrees but I do think most people would even though they should. It's easier said than done.
I'm not even sure I would and I don't hire female professionals for anything but if I walked onto a flight with some diversity hires or was staring in a movie with a female weapon's checker, I might just think in my mind I'll take the gamble rather than the inconvenience even though I shouldn't... but I might actually... sure, it would cost me another $2000 but I have the money to choose like that so I might but most people don't have $2000 to throw away to make sure they liked their pilot and what happens if the next batch of pilots were diversity hires too lol.

Nah, nothing changed after that stunt double died filming Deadpool 2. Dieversity will not be stopped until critical mass is reached.

Yes, I meant as a customer.

She's not a diversity hire, she's a nepotism hire. Apparently her dad was some big shot armorer and worked on big movies back in the day.
