Don't do it. But if you must, do not include ANY ties to Cross. Insisting on tying that bad ending to Trigger's triumphant conquest of fate will sour the entire experience.
They forced it into the DS game. They'll do it again.
I still remember how pissed I was when, after you finished the new postgame content, Dalton showed up...
And then they should remake Cross with all the ties to Trigger cut out.
CC taking place in a remote corner of the CT world would have been enough to explain that.
