The only cameras that authorities use that I would consider for my safety are body cameras as they stop A LOT of abuse both ways. CCTV can be largely shit unless someone is actually going to act on it before the victim is dead and as said previously speed cameras are just another form of taxation.
The major effect of Body Cameras is to reduce complaints against cops by about 80%.
In general if a cop wants to abuse someone, they do what they always have. Go somewhere quiet, where they are not seen, do something evil, not file any paperwork.
Everyone has a camera in their pocket, and they have for years. Giving cops a clear record has mostly given cops a way to vindicate themselves.
This whole "both sides!" shit, is just bullshit. Mostly cops are honest and doing the job for the right reasons. There are glaring exceptions (the whole of the LA police department was on the take in the 1990s for example) but mostly cops need to protect themselves from the people they arrest.
I don't just mean that way, body cams have pretty much vindicated the opinion that a lot of women aren't suitable to be cops as there is a ton of footage of them unable to do their job without risking someone's life whether the public, themselves or even their partners.
