Members of the Board of Lloyd’s instructed to read their homework. That’s about as humiliating as it gets, short of being wrongfully fired.
Lloyds HR deliberately lied about what the court said. Luckily the court wasn’t buying their bullshit.
I'm pretty legitimately shocked. I didn't think such a thing would be possible in the UK now. The only thing the story is missing is word that the "trainer" was fired for causing such a shitstorm and costing the bank over a million dollars.
A man can dream.
It's not only surprising coming from the UK. These days I doubt a US court would rule the same way.
When did "nigger" become such an unspeakable offense in the UK anyway? Isn't that mainly an American epithet? I would have thought it's like "cunt" - yeah it's rude to say but you won't get cancelled over it.
A lot of our social faux pas have been ctrl-c ctrl-v'd whole cloth from the USA, without consideration for context or history. I've even heard people parrot the line that 'we are a nation of immigrants', which makes even less sense in Europe than it does in America (where it doesn't make that much sense either). I think it's just a consequence of the USA being the de facto leader of the Western world. A lot of the cultural context in Europe is full of American hang-ups, even when it doesn't hold up to even cursory scrutiny.
My grandparents would just call them wogs or blackies.
WOMEN.
Anyway, there's hope yet for England, it seems!
"Nigger" is legal in the UK, boys!
Hate speech doesn't exist. Words are not violence. If you find an idea distasteful, that does not necessitate that others will as well.
The very concept of hate speech implies that words are objectively offensive by nature, which is to completely misunderstand the nature of "offense." One cannot dictate how another is going to feel or react, thus one cannot give offense - offense must be taken.
It is much like the way one cannot accurately say "that isn't funny." The accurate statement is "I didn't find that funny." It is the same with offense. We choose what to take offense at. Whether we realize this choice or not is unimportant because it does not change the reality of the situation.
Free speech is hate speech. I know it's not readily apparent to most people, but the restrictions one places on ideological opponents are exactly the restrictions that will be used against one in the future. Restricting speech because one does not agree with it only has one eventual outcome: more speech will be restricted in the future for an equally arbitrary reason as a means to leverage control over the populace.
Nigger
So... Mugabe?
does the ADL care about Hitler? It seems they care about power. I did not follow them but how did they respond to the left becoming openly anti-Israel lately?
