Joan Jett, meh. She had an interesting voice, but few of her songs are particularly memorable. There's "Bad Reputation" and "I Hate Myself for Loving You" that are interesting, I'll grant her that, but her most famous song, "I Love Rock 'n' Roll", was only a cover of the song by "Arrows", and was less interesting than the original.
I'd agree with u/ernsithe's other suggestions, though. They're all good candidates. I might also consider adding Janis Joplin to that list, too.

Girl rock is strange and hard to gauge, especially the early stuff.
Did you know that if you open a bar and don't want the place to become a hangout for rough crowds or troublemakers, mixing female rock into your playlist will discourage that? It's subliminal but somehow diluting the music with it sucks the testosterone out of the venue's vibe.
