He was in a fucked up spot where he'd be out of the governor's office and irrelevant in 2028, but also running against Trump after an election that was obviously stolen from him and during an election where Trump either wins or dies in federal prison.
Why would he be irrelevant? He would have been elected as Governor again, at the very least, no doubt about it whatsoever. Or before his term ended, he could have openly declared his intent to run as President in the next election, and said that he would now spend the remaining time preparing for it, researching his future duties, becoming familiar with all the issues, in order to be the best President there can be. Even if the election itself happened 2 or 3 years later, he could have still remained relevant, just by showing up to various interviews and shows like Tucker's, Shapiro's, Crowder's or Info Wars. Basically doing a bit of what Vivek has been doing so successfully. He would have had options.
But instead, he made the worst tactical decision of all, and has made multiple blunders since then, on top of it.
He seems pretty level headed so for the life of me I can't figure out why he decided to run. I half think he was goaded in to it to harm his chances at being re-elected governor.
People are pissed at Florida for being a sane state but with the massive influx of people fleeing insane states it would not take much to push it blue. Doesn't matter who the Dems run if they get in there they will repeal fucking everything day 1.
I think the deep state whispered in DeSantis' ear that Trump wasn't going to be allowed to run, so he thought well I better position to be the #2 choice.
He thought Trump-lite would poll low since why not get the real thing, so he went after the never-Trump in order to secure the clear #2 position.
His problem is that there is no fallback second choice. Trump is so popular that nobody is in the #2 spot.
Like if it was 50 Trump / 30 DeSantis and Trump gets Kennedy'd the party would just hand it over to DeSantis before anybody could say otherwise. But when he's at 10% and tied with other also-rans, the Trumpers (assuming we're not in full-on civil war) will make it a contest and probably go for Trump-lite Ramaswamy.
He would have been term limited in Florida.
Oh? I see. Well, my point still stands. He would not be a nobody.
