Why do I feel like if I look up the origins of 'Safe Words', it'll be men created them because they needed some indication of what women ACTUALLY want..

It's a popular format of drama. Women probably consoom the most shows, but other than that I don't think the popularity of this variant of the crime drama is gender specific in appeal.
