Imagine if he said “this happened because of our intelligence failures. We were warned about this for months by Egypt”
He would be removed in a week.
The Hamas attack put a freeze on the protesting and such, but Netanyahu is eating a lot of blame for the attack. His political prospects look bleak.
Netanyahu and the Israeli Supreme Court have been rewriting the Israeli constitution and consolidating power for the past year, weakening the legislature in the process. Israel was starting to approach serious civil unrest with the amount of protests against him. How convenient that Hamas attacks, he gets to keep his alterations to the government (which a successor will take advantage of) and everyone loves him now.
