Actual minors get tried as adults fairly often in the US when their crimes are heinous enough. We are, however, still in the midst of a post-Floyd "let blacks kill whitey" moment so this isn't consistent.
Legally speaking, only 17 year olds can be tried as adults. So 16 and below will be given sentences in the youth system.
