The thing that bugs me about the modern wealthy is none of them (with very few exceptions) do anything cool with it.
I'd be trying to build remote castles in Alaska, undersea mansions or even a small orbital ring (if I had enough money). Mostly to get away from other people but perhaps with the long-term goal of having a fortified sanctuary where /myguys/ could ultimately live away from Clown World.
Instead it's "let's (try to) cure Malaria for the Global South (so more of them can live long enough to migrate up into the West)"
Problem with all that requires governmental agreements. A lot of Alaska is federal land, ocean building requires multiple government agreements based on location, and building in space is what Elon is trying to do and the US is telling him who to hire.
The philanthropist side of the filthy rich is 90% there to appease the government from taxing them to hell and back.
Elon is one of the "very few exceptions". Except he's also trying to make what he's doing profitable, so he's got to make a business of it. Which means employees, which means meddling.
I don't want a business. Or employees. I want a castle in the middle of nowhere. I'm not trying to save the world: just myself.

Maybe one day he'll build a sci-fi fortress on Mars and proclaim himself Mars the God of War.
build it in international waters and tell them to eat shit when they come knocking.
As Sealand demonstrated, if you do this you need an army to defend against all the pirates you'll attract.
Fedbois don't like it when you build compounds, especially when you have money that could be going towards
bribinglobbying them. The nice thing about being insanely wealthy is you can afford to do both.
At heart I'm a pragmatic guy, so if bribing some politicians is what it took so I could have my Alaskan/undersea castle, I'd grumble but I'd do it.
People build a shitload of em in Wyoming
What does Notch do?
Doesn't he kinda just mill about, buy whatever he wants, and shitpost on Twitter?
Don't need billions to do that. Hell I do that at my (much much smaller) level of wealth, except my "buy whatever I want" is much more modest.
He probably has a bunker somewhere. You can has.
Of course.
