Can’t argue that. The fact it’s their final song makes me appreciate it way more than I normally would. Although I like everything by them so I’m biased. Same with Hank Sr, James Brown? Elvis, Hendrix, Stones, etc
Gotcha. Stones are my favorite British Invasion band but I also have everything by the Beatles. Plus they were big fans of Buddy Holly and Chuck Berry who I love
I always thought that the Beatles were rather dull and overhyped, even compared to other artists of the same generation, like Dick Dale and his song Misirlou. It's nice that the Beatles seemingly inspired better rock artists to pick up the mantle after them, but otherwise, I am completely indifferent to them.
Oh, he's great. I wasn't there at the time, so I might be talking out of my ass, but I get the impression that Surf Rock was a fringe genre back then. Something enjoyed by only a very small portion of the people, likely for being too loud and thrilling, while the Beatles were just the mainstream, boring and dull shite that was just extreme enough that people who wanted to appear respectable could openly enjoy. They were far from the best artists of their time, but they made soft rock more acceptable, which led to more people following in their footsteps with music that was actually good. That's the impression I get, anyhow.
Dick Dale was amazing, and still played incredible music all the way until he died in 2019. Songs that were way ahead of their time, and better than the majority of the new music that comes out today. I find it bewildering that the Beatles were more successful than him.
Years of hearing covers have proven to me that the Beatles worst quality is the fact that decent music and lyrics are being forced out of the mouths of whiny British boys.
We all live in a yellow submarine. Yellow submarine. Yellow submarine.
Or the classic:
You say goodbye, I say hello. Hello. Hello. I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello. Hello. Hello. I don't know why you say goodbye, I say hello.
And who could ever forget:
I am the eggman. They are the eggmen. I am the walrus. Goo goo g'joob g'goo goo g'joob. Goo goo a'joob g'goo goo g'joob g'goo. Joob! Joob! Joob!
And Danny Elfman singing this on Oingo Boingo's last album is actually a decent track, well above the Beatles' own version. Doesn't need to be deep, just enough to bop your head.
Personally I was thinking of their less bland songs like Eleanor Rigby or Maxwell's Silver Hammer when I said the lyrics were decent. Their mainstream shit is complete garbage that only works if you are a hippy stoned out of your mind.
Yea, there was a tape that Yoko had of Lennon stinging the song and they used some guitar work George Harrison did in 95. Ringo and Paul came into the studio.
I'd pay a lot of money to never have to listen to another song from the beetles ever again. Boomer's music won't see any play in a few years and the world will be better for it.
Because as we know, "Imagine" is infinitely less degenerate, shitty and damaging to people's minds as its sung with a soft voice by a guy your mom wanted to bang.
I was born in 80 but I was very retro. Super retro because in high school I was listening Hank Sr. and Muddy Waters. I love 80s and 90s stuff of course but I have an appreciation for past decades

It's alright. Was never a huge beatles fan.

Smith: did you ever listen to the Kinks? They were maybe more 'British' than the Stones/Beatles. A bit of an acquired taste, though.
Aerotrain
I like them as well. I have their greatest hits but haven’t done a deep dive like I have with Stones, Beatles, or Zeppelin

Dick Dale's music was used for the soundtrack of one of my favorite unknown gems: Rocket Jockey. That game was ahead of its time.

Yep. Amazing lyrics like:

Didn't some of the Beatles die a long time ago?

Thanks for posting, I hadn't heard about it. Beatles songs were some of the first I remember liking, especially Rocky Racoon.
Interesting that it was Peter Jackson's technology that made this possible.
I didn’t know that! Cool. I am a big fan so maybe I’m over rating it but I like it
There's a mini doc on the making of it:

Thanks!

hah, yeah cause WAP is a piece of goddamned musical artistry thats up there with the likes of Beethoven or Holst right ?

All popular music is bad, no matter when it was made.

I’ve always been retro for some reason, but I got music. Going back to 1910 not counting classical
