Its been a long time so my details might be off, but his alt universe had a Peter Parker. Who had just straight up died in a genuinely fitting way, which is the reason why Miles took the name and tried to live up to his legacy because he had the same powers. Which is basically the exact story that happened with some of the Robins and why I compared him to them specifically despite being from DC.
And it was the Ultimate run of comics where a lot more wild changes happened to basically everyone as they tried to make incredibly different versions of basically everyone.* I'm still upset at how they did my boy Carnage in that one. But its the most respectful of any "replace with a clone" variations we've seen, as it genuinely shows the huge shadow Peter casts on every action Miles takes.
He was never Spiderman, just Spiderman 2. Anyone claiming otherwise was always trying to pull something stupid. But he at least initially was his own character beyond just a raceswap, and is basically one of the only ones who was done with any reverence.
*Its also where they first made Nick Fury black, and based on Sam Jackson. Which is a far more egregious raceswap because they straight up just made his MCU version black and now literally no one remembers his original white character.
I mentioned it before, but I simply consider there to be two different Nick Furys. The first one is from WW2, and would be extremely old or dead by the time the MCU takes place with its completely different Nick Fury who would probably have been a Gulf War I vet if anything.
