With the 2nd game releasing on steam early next year, I picked up zero dawn on steam. I will now talk spoilers below.
I am currently on the border of the nora territory with the sun tribe. I enjoyed the first part of the game alot up until the brave trial, but after that aloy has started to feel a bit mary suish. She starts the game as an underdog outcast which I related to, but now she seems too.. Sure of herself, a bit cocky. It's normal for the player char to be super talented, but she just seems to be getting arrogant about it.
World building is great, I just feel the game treats aloy as if she is perfect. She never gets called out by other characters for making a mistake
Based and "Never Even Played This Woke Shit" pilled
The story is terrible, the gameplay is decent, the exploration is fun enough.
I think the "dungeons" were the highlight for me.
I would figure out if there was a way to mute all of the dialogue and just read the subtitles, the voice acting is universally bad. And the story is generic feminist story number 847 where immoral man causes problem and super awesome woman has to fix it.
Fuck no
Do you like fighting the machines? If the answer is yes, then yes, Horizon Zero Dawn is worth finishing because that's the best part about the game. Fighting robot dinosaurs that shoot beams when they roar with bows and arrows is cool. If you're playing for the story on the other hand, then forget it. It's not gonna get better, and neither is Aloy. Well, aspects of backstory that you uncover are neat, but the actual plot of the game is always going to be meh.
Btw I had my eyes on the plague tale games and ghosts of tsushima. How do they compare to horizon?
Ghosts of Tsushima is very solid. All round good game. No idea about Plague Tale.
Maybe I'll just take a break and come back later. I really play games for the story.
I can’t imagine playing video games primarily for their stories.
It's like watching the Super Bowl for the commercials.
To each his own, I guess. I’ve enjoyed a small handful of video game stories, but I’ve become way less tolerant of their excesses as I’ve aged. At this point, I’m playing soulslikes, roguelikes, and survival crafting games almost exclusively. The common thread in these genres? 99% gameplay.
Watch a longplay or look up the ending online in a wiki. That's what I do (at 1.5x speed) whenever I get bored of a game and just want to see the end. No sense wasting my life playing a so-so game when I could be playing something more fun.
Horizon Zero Dawn is the best tech demo for why Capcom should make a fully open world Monster Hunter.
I found the gameplay pretty fun overall, the quests and dialogue were tedious and the plot of the game was so laughably awful I couldn't believe it. Makes me want to bring back the Shamus Young (RIP) "Goldun Riter" award.
eh, if you've fought all the different robots, you've played the parts that are worth it. The ending and twist are extremely guessable.
