The Republican Party was putting forth fucking Ted Cruz as its 2016 frontrunner before Trump forced them to pick him. Not post-Trump meme machine Ted Cruz, but blander than butter Zodiac Killer Ted Cruz.
That should tell you everything you ever need to know about what they consider good qualities in a pick and how little they actually want to win.
Lyin'/Lion Ted Cruz is still, somehow, one of our better establishment allies.
Somehow, Ted Cruz is a better choice than Dan Crenshaw.
2016 Ted Cruz was none of those things. The only reason he has any remotely likable or useful qualities is because he lost so hard he was shook loose of his inhibitors.
I'm fine with him now, as he is certainly near the top of our Congressional picks (not a high point of praise), but no one should have ever looked at old Ted and thought him capable of winning anything.
