The best one can hope for is for the entire demonic species to finally go extinct, without taking any more other species with it.

Why would you hope for something that's not going to happen? That's just a recipe for unhappiness. Best anyone can hope for is whatever you enjoy doing in your life, do it. If you can't do it then hope for death.
