That used to be the case, but when the most 'successful' communist country is China which is communist in name only, it's just authoritarian, I don't think that's the case and this is the left's delusion.
They think when the western states fall, they can swoop in and replace the current hierarchy with their own under the banner of communism. In reality, I think when the collapse comes the west will dissolve into fractured states with deep divides and only regional powers will remain. There will be a lot of bloodshed in those areas already showing they have no sign of authority when they can't fall back on a national power to save them.
Well, yeah, sure, there's no guarantee it'll work out their way. They're also not doing it on purpose with any kind of faraway goal in mind, most of them anyway - the demoralized masses are just hedonists and nihilists so they don't care about anything other than getting to coom, they don't care that they're destroying the world that enables them to live their lives of luxury in the first place. So there's no logic in the behavior, they don't analyze and see "this isn't going to work" - this train doesn't have brakes and it's rolling down a hill.
I actually think a lot of it is they gave up on an organised faith, are directionless and easily manipulated by those that just want to use them, either as or tool or their own sadistic pleasure.
Unironically a lot of people need Jesus and cannot function in society if they aren't given a moral code to live by.
