The true message of the film is one of grooming, though: They take an IP meant for very young girls, and turn it into a sex-referencing extravaganza. Hotter take than usual, but maybe, just maybe, Hollywood shouldn't make sex-centric films using IPs meant for 8 year olds.
Argue all you want on the merits or demerits of a portrayal of unjust or unjustified societies, it won't change the fact the film is blatantly filled with sex jokes and references and imagery in a PG-13 film for an IP for young children.
It's not aimed at the 8 year olds. I don't think I've seen any posts on social media about taking an 8 year old to it. They expect it to be an adult satire on life, and don't see the message being shown, because that would ruin the experience of seeing it.
I have similar feelings about the doll.
