Multnomah County Circuit Judge Heidi Moawad said the assailant, Blake D. Hampe, will remain under her supervision for three years and is banned from possessing weapons or participating in unlawful assemblies or riots during that time. He may attend lawful demonstrations.
Hampe, now 46, was caught on video stabbing right-wing activist Andrew Duncomb, 28, outside the graffiti-smeared barricades surrounding the federal courthouse just after 2:30 a.m. on July 25, 2020, according to court documents.
"Right wing activist" = Journalist who was trying to film the riots.
Defense attorney Alicia Hercher said prosecutors struck a plea deal after seeing evidence that Duncomb’s injuries weren’t life-threatening.
That's fucking bizarre.
he said the knife entered his back and narrowly missed his spine.
Hampe pleaded guilty to attempted second-degree assault under the terms of the deal. He was previously convicted of possessing child pornography in federal court in Maine in 2008, according to court papers.
LAST LINE OF THE STORY.
I won't link it but the local Portland subreddit is essentially calling this guy a hero and supporting his actions. It is one of the more disgusting things I've seen in this shithole of a city.
NPCs live very much in the 'current thing' mindset, this is exactly how George Floyd happened, they didn't care he put a gun to a pregnant woman's belly and was a criminal with a fetanyl problem. To them it was about, cop killed black man, therefore black man innocent.
The same people who say that threatening a pregnant woman with a gun does not mean that you deserve to be "murdered", think that people deserve to be actually murdered if they, say, use the word 'nigger'. Or if they are mildly conservative.
My favorite was Arthur Caplan, a... professor of bio-ethics, who said that anti-lockdown protesters were engaged in dangerous activities by protesting, so if they got Covid they should be refused treatment. But then one month after that, he started supporting not protests, but looting, arson, mayhem and murder.
Do you think he was ever held accountable for his murderous nonsense? Last month he was on CNN once again as an 'expert'.
A while back I read something to the effect of "you can't use logic and reason to change an opinion arrived at through emotion". This has completely changed how I view the left and how we need to deal with them.
We're not going to have a meeting, present them with a telephone book sized stack of facts that disprove their beliefs, and then see them come around to our way of thinking like a rational person. They will cling to their beliefs despite all evidence to the contrary- in fact, counter evidence may make them believe even stronger in their position (double-down effect).
To paraphrase an ancient saying, the average person is fit only to be a slave; the real problem is that there's no man fit to be their master nowadays. This was true in the days of Narmer, of Sulla & Marius, of Washington & Jefferson (the Founding Fathers hardly had a good opinion of democracy BTW), and of our days.
The only difference 'liberal democracy' has made is that it gives the commons the illusion that whatever message is being downloaded into their brains is actually there by choice, and that they have any real say in the goings-on being directed by the people holding their leashes. If anything, the modern governments are vastly larger and more intrusive than any classical republic or monarchy - and yet the modern serf accepts surveillance to an extent unthinkable even by Louis XIV 'for his own good', he thinks, and thinks nothing of judges and policemen who explicitly refuse to do their jobs, when past peasants would have lynched them and threatened their successors with the same unless they shape up!
What is with all these fucking insane 40-something lefties violently assaulting or even murdering people?
You'd think it would be the impressionable and brainwashed younger generations, but we keep seeing these stories of these older people losing their shit and being violent scum.
Man, I do not like in any way the idea that “we’ll mitigate because the effect of the attack was not life threatening.” Fuck that, you stab a guy, you don’t really have much control over those margins if “half an inch this way, dead; half an inch that way, survives.” Intent to kill or cause grievous bodily harm, bam, give him a sentence commensurate with attempted murder. Knock a year off the 20 for the luck of not actually killing the dude
After reading the 2nd parent comment, I watched the 49 second clip to verify. First, that gives no context as to whether the overalls stabber was following beforehand. Second, Duncomb wasn't carrying the knife or bear spray in his hands, which that comment and a few others were too eager to emphasize. Probation is too light a punishment, even if Duncomb was being a shithead.

And how do you suggest we convince them that they're wrong or coming at issues from the wrong direction?
You can't. The only thing you can do is remove their ability to act, or impact anyone else.
You can't reason with rabid beasts, only put them down
Harder to do when it's family members who are otherwise pleasant, as long as no political topics come up in discussion.

Younger people don't watch TV.
