In Quebec, we have the worst waiting times in the ER of the whole developped world.
Average is over 9 hours. Some people wait 18 hours.
The government and the media like to blame people who go for non-emergencies, telling them they need to book an urgent appointment with their family doctor, or at a no-appointment clinic if they don't have a family doctor.
Except you can't just book an appointment or go to the clinic. All the slots are full less than an hour after they open-up.
''Wait, slots? You said no-appointment clinic for urgent stuff that dosen't need a hospital visit''
Yes, in Clown World, you need an appointment for the no-appointment clinic.
That ''non-appointment appointment'' is for the next day. So you waited half a day, or almost a full day, to book an appointment for the next day, for something that requires seeing a doctor within 12, 24 or 48 hours.
Oh and if there is a holyday, LOL, you're definetly not clicking and filling the chart fast enough to get in the alloted slots in the automated system.
So you go to the hospital. In city hospitals, half the healthcare workers seem to resent patients for being there.
Rural hospitals / clinics have most staff polite and compassionate. But you'll still wait the usual 4 to 12 hours.
Did you know illegal immigrants immediately get a family doctor? Lol.

Family doctor? Wait time is about 5 years, if you're actively soliciting and don't mind an hour's travel at least.
Oh, you're here illegally? Why didn't you say so? Skip to the front of the line.
I have been waiting for one for over 5 years.
They called to check if I was still alive and wanted to stay on the waiting list.
Clown Nation.
