Let's not forget that they consider Pennywise and Babadook actual gay icons. They even made Chuckie call people who don't respect their gay kids "monsters, unlike me."
They fully admit how they see themselves, and unlike the edgy guy posting Joker memes on Facebook they aren't a laughable thing easy to dismiss but actually able to force themselves on society.
