IIRC that's where the origin of 'faggot' (a 'bundle of sticks' = kindling after all) as an insult comes from. There was a poll a few years ago that revealed that, in America, Evangelical Christians were less pro-LGBT than Muslims. Muslim attitudes within the US were generally trending towards shitlib. That's probably backsliding now, in line with a generalized backslide of liberalism.
I'm not sure. Liberalism's backslide is happening in large part due to it adopting post-modern nonsense and the collapse of trust in liberal institutions thanks to their corruption becoming increasingly brazen.
