Say he gets convicted, it'll have to go to the Supremes who have two options:
The President doesn't have real constitutional powers, endorsing a permanent deep state that no election can ever overturn.
Declare it a witch-hunt because it's so obviously legal the case should have been thrown out from the first motion to dismiss.
Neither one is a good ruling for the country and liberal intolerance is what did it.
What's wrong with the second ruling?
Getting to that point confirms that the rule of law is dead. Anybody can be put in prison for their political beliefs at any time, except maybe a President or the very most powerful. Any normal Joe posting 'hate speech' doesn't get a Supreme court review.
Half the country confirmed in distrust of law institutions, the other half that the Supremes are compromised. That's how you get a stacked 15 Justices and then a while later 31 Justices and so on or mass political impeachments.
It's a no-win scenario and that's why both parties in the past avoided clearly political indictments even for obvious crimes.
