Not sure if anyone was on the fence about the remake because they liked the original, if so you can skip it. I thought maybe there was a slim bit of hope it would be decent but it manages to be worse in every single way.
I did a double take at the list of new 'clones' in the school, and got rid of one of the best characters / changed the voice actor for another simply to avoid any criticism. Seriously though here is who they add:
Among the new names are Confucius (Kelvin Yu), Harriet Tubman (Ayo Edebiri), Christopher Columbus (Neil Casey), and Frida Kahlo (Vicci Martinez),
They also replace the Principal with a woman, all the 'shadowy military figures' are now women and black people (literally all of them)...the writing was awful, late night show bullshit.
I'd say it is worse than Velma but I could only stomach half of the first episode so who knows it might get worse. Still stay far, far away from this shit.
I actually put the original on my list to watch. I didn’t put the remake because I saw the year it was made and assumed it would be “for a modern audience”. Thanks for the confirmation
I never saw it when it was new, but from the clips I've seen, the original was pretty damn funny!
Early 00s animation was great. Like adult swim with sealab 2021 and aqua teen hunger force
Ah, Sealab 2021, the original Abridged Series. Still one of the funniest shows I've ever seen.
A shame it went so downhill after the death of Harry Goz, voice of Captain Murphy, after season 2.
There are a few decent episodes afterwards but he was the heart of Sealab.
The episode where the electricity goes out is a personal favorite.
Thanks for the heads up. Original Clone High was pretty funny, but this...
Sadly it is the same people involved as the original, Phil Lord and Chris Miller. I thought they'd maybe want to keep one of their early works the same but no, they tried to 'modernize it' and turned gold to shit.
Great satire in the original series though. MTV had a few bangers back in the day, Liquid Television was so far ahead of its time.
Gandhi was the reason it was canceled 20 years ago. There were actual hunger strikes in India because they didn't like how he was portrayed.
India ruins everything.
They demanded Smite change Kali because she was depicted too accurately.
And of course they fucking caved.
Isn't starving the basic state of being in India? How the fuck can they go on a hunger strike and why would anyone care?
Thank you for the warning.
I don't care about remakes, but thank you for making "I-er-ah...want a party platter!" leap to mind.
The scene where he’s teaching Gandhi to talk like him and he says “I…er…uh…” slowly to help Gandhi get it… I die thinking of it even to this day
That's a shame, the original clone high was great.
I didn't have high expectations though. It had been too long. And if it's being made in the ever advancing today-ism years, I figured it would not be worth watching.
I'm just sorry it too fell for that.
That’s a shame since the original was hilarious. But in current year, and a show about history to boot, there was no way they were going to be able to keep from tarding out.
Velma was orders of magnitude times worse. There's for sure a lot of 'current year' taint to the Clone High reboot, but it's not overtly malicious and contemptuous of the original like too many reboots are these days.
When the new Clone High has a "twerking over Fred's mother's corpse" moment, then they will be comparable.
Wasn't there a manga with cloned historical figures in high school thing, where Hitler was having an existential crisis because everyone hated him despite the fact that he, quite literally since he was an adolescent clone and not the original, did nothing wrong? And then he questioned why he was even made, cloned, and it turned out someone paid to have him cloned and educated simply so they could purchase and torture him afterwards?
Man, late 90s/early 2000s had some whack plotlines.
Very late, but caught an episode on cable and was very confused WTF was going on.
Wikipedia deliberately obfuscates the OG series and the new wole 2023 version.
They list the new episodes as Seasons 2 & 3 despite the 20 year gap in between the OG canceled Season 1.
