Le gasp! You mean loony Watermelon* activists were too stupid (or maybe - likely - just acting stupid to hide their malice) to realize that most timber industries actually grow more trees than they cut down (otherwise, they run out of trees to cut) and thus have screwed over the entire country for nothing? I'm shocked, shocked I say!
(for anyone who hasn't seen the term before, Watermelon = green (environmental) on the outside, red (commie) on the inside).
These eco-fascists use destructive transformation of societies as a display of power. They love to subjugate people to their ideology. The more disruptive and painful the better.
Haha yes, I wish it was just le simple standard size print paper, but no, that is just a symptom...
I can't believe the entire paper industry in this country has become so fucking weak that it is about to collapse, because of fucking sugar gliders...
Sugar gliders. In plantation forests.
I'm sure that's not the real reason (I am almost 100% certain, at this point, that Australia has deliberately destroyed the entire manufacturing industry/sector), but it just shows the patent absurdity of it...
Of course the fuckwits who voted for this waited until we were no longer making disposable masks (not out of the same substance, necessarily, but you get the idea), because that would just be too obvious, and too hypocritical...
Apparently this move will massively increase carbon emissions, too (because it all needs to be imported now), and of course, if your buying the paper in from China or Malaysia (v likely), environmental standards are guaranteed to be lower, than the equivalent local production...
It's actually insane. Like, god help us.
Anyway, sorry to get all serious. I just can't believe the utter stupidity (in reality, malice, but they're pretending it's stupidity) of this decision, really...
I can believe the maliciousness of this decision. Victorian Labor had its own foreign policy putting it in bed with our enemies. Destroying Australian jobs to benefit China is exactly what I'd expect out of them.
Yes, this was almost exactly what I said when discussing this with someone offline, earlier…
I also suspect that is the case, here, even if the Speccy author is too naïve, or perhaps too scared of being sued, to outright say that…
But I 100% agree that both Labor and the Greens almost certainly had that in mind, when this decision was made…
Hell, I remember a decade ago, the Wilderness Society was deliberately and actively campaigning on behalf of Malaysian timber companies, to destroy the local industry (in Tasmania. Very successfully, I might add), in order to increase imports instead…
This has been a very long game. But I really don’t think most people who support and/or donate to these organizations realize that…
In case anyone is interested, Graeme Wood and Jan Cameron (of the clothing company Kathmandu) are both v corrupt, v wealthy individuals who I’m quite sure get backing from hostile regimes…
Their combined power is enough to get decisions like this one over the line. Not even kidding.
A modern version of the Rockefellers, if you will. Or obviously Bill Gates, but in a different arena…
After all, ‘twas Jane Goodall who said 90% human depopulation is “needed” to save the planet!
I fucking hate these old environmentalists…
Stick to saving old growth forests and hugging chimps, you fucking psychopaths…
I hate to shove more blackpills down your throat, but this is pretty much a world-wide deal.
I have to deal with paper supplies for the company I work for, and over the past two years, getting reliable shipment of the paper brand we need has occasionally gotten a little... shakey.
From some of the printer technicians I've talked to, other places have it even worse.
My printing workplace definitely had issues. My corner of the workplace, "Digital," can only print on sheeted stock, and that was something we had become unable to obtain for a while. At the very least, we could still obtain rolls of paper that could be sheeted down, but that's labor time that might have been able to be used otherwise.

Interesting. I'll try to remember it. I wonder if I'll get accused of racism due to the stereotype of blacks liking watermelon.
Oh, is this not a thing in the US..?
Everyone knows that term, here. But then again, the fucking Greens are much more politically powerful, here, so that’s probably part of it…
Unfortunately this is one of those things that we exported largely to the rest of you (Green parties, not environmentalism itself, that is)…
I've never heard that word used to describe US environmentalists.
The US doesn't have a meaningful "green" party so nobody who isn't already in the game knows the "watermelon" term.
Also the propaganda is such that all of the commies fall back to "I'm not a commie, I'm a socialist" as if there is a difference.
Really we are stuck in an an intentionally generated linguistic mess, created so the gay commies can pretend to be something else.
I've found the only term that makes things absolutely clear is "gay commie".
I don't recall hearing that term before for green politicians. Not here in europe anyway.
Unfortunately this isn't stupidity. It's malice.

Communist shithole does communist shithole things. I'm not surprised.
