I don't know that I'd go so far as to say innocent but he was doing a public service to keep people safe that the proper authorities had neglected to do for a long time.
We can't be having people choke out folks who are having a bad day and feeling a little ratty because of it because NYC council overlooked the needs o one of their citizens who had specific special needs.
When you have someone strong and crazy like that subdued, the LAST thing you want to do is let them back up.
I think what happened here is similar to what happened to George Floyd. He was subjected to reasonable restraint but that, combined with the drugs in his system, led to heart failure.
Doesn't matter though, that Marine is fucked. He's white. Soros DA. NYC judge and jury. There will be no plea bargain. He's going to prison for 2nd degree murder.
Hopefully an autopsy will find drugs in the system or other complications which will loosen the potential for punishment against the marine.
I'm not wanting him to go to jail or anything, I just think people should be able to stop acts which grossly endanger harmless innocent people just going about their business but I can't say that vigilantism is a feasible solution to what should be getting dealt with by the local authorities.
Given the amount of drugs found in Floyd's system that they just ignored, and that the coroner here has already called this a homicide, I have no idea where your optimism comes from but I think it's gravely missplaced.
The system has no care for truth or impartial justice anymore, especially not once political powers/the media get involved.
I'm not sure why I have optimism but having seen the carnage that Saint Floyd brought across the nation I don't think anyone wants to be flippant about dealing with a veteran going to jail because the system let a homeless man go loose and wild on innocent civilians.
Yeah it's barely possible to have more drugs in one's system than St. Floyd. There aren't enough drugs in the entire state of NY to save that poor marine. Autopsy results won't have any bearing on whether he gets railroaded or not. Only clear exculpatory video evidence can save him, and considering how clear the Rittenhouse evidence was, in a much redder state and jury pool, and how he still almost got railroaded, this dude needs to have exculpatory evidence so damn clear that it is difficult to have any hope for him.
A: Public Service B: Guilty
pick one.
If he gets paid for his duties then A.
Sadly it's B otherwise.
It'll take a reasonable lawyer to stop this becoming a shitshow.
"Having a bad day and feeling a little ratty" is a gross understatement
Gotta phrase it that way to make it look like a disproportionate response, because when you say "being dangerous and violent to multiple people" suddenly choking the aggressor out looks like a net positive outcome.
Absolute pacifism is slow (or sometimes fast) suicide, proportional violence in response to agression is fine and should be respected not discouraged.
People who argue you should never fight for your interests should be treated as either potentially predatory or incredibly stupid, either way they're a liability.
He got a free mocha instead of a cappuccino - it was that bad!
