I heard about this. Why can’t they just let you have different options? Also it annoys me that they keep catering to small portions of the population and they are upset when people notice. I know there are female gamers but the push for women in gaming is beyond annoying
I think it's because companies see roughly half of the population not being interested in gaming not a s reality, but as some vast untapped market sure to lead to fabulous riches.
In reality, girls aren't interest in gaming for the same reason they're largely disinterested in Transformers, GI Joe, etc.- it's an activity that appeals to boys. Spamming the market with lady soldier GI Joe's won't make girls buy them, it just results in a bunch of unsold G Joe's on the shelves.
So, when the logical and predictable failure of trying to turn video gaming into a girl's activity materializes, these companies can't just accept the fact that they made a mistake and go back to catering to their actual audience they have to blame us for it instead.
Happened with comic books and a lot of IPs like Star Wars. I don’t get why they don’t follow the model that Manga does. Manga specifically makes content for certain audiences
Alot of manga is straight up autistic passion projects that can only really happen in an environment where getting published is comparatively 'easy' to happen.
Keep in mind, damn near every manga gets it's start in these huge, phone-book-sized, cheap-as-fuck compilations. Entrance cost is stupidly low, and the Japanese publishers have access to all the metrics, so if something isn't doing well, it gets the boot. It's a type of 'fail fast, fail often' environment with a large amount of churn that also produces a fair bit of gold.
There's nothing really like in America. American comic book 'people' nowadays are straight up activists operating in a nepotistic environment and are immune to most market forces.
I’ve collected comics since childhood and I remember this passive push for women in comics and I was so confused as to why they were so obsessed with women in comics or just catering to markets that do t generally like comics or how the kept pushing gay characters that flopped. But now I only buy older comics from marvel and dc. I will buy some undies like Alterna, Eric July’s comics, and I plan on getting what Razorfist is making
This is the real answer. Modern publishing acts as gatekeepers desite having a terrible track record as tastemakers. They publish not what people want, but what they think people should want.
I'm not sure if they're doubling down on bad bets because it's challenging for humans and businesses to admit they made a mistake and reverse course or if they're just so infected executives and staff who are so interested in pushing their social agenda that they're willing to destroy their employer to do it. Probably both.
Because the people at the controls of these corporations are literal communist infiltrators. Kathleen Kennedy don’t give a fuck if Star Wars burns to the ground. She’s a feminist first, which is basically a feminist only.
She’s a feminist first, which is basically a feminist only.
Exactly. They don't care about success and failure in the same way that the people who hired them do. They care about success in terms of how much they destroyed a male hobby/interest.
I seem to remember a big outrage with Mass Effect 1 (I think it was?) where you couldn't romance the same sex. The answer at the time being that the main character was not gay so you couldn't have gay romance.
Of course it doesn't go the other way, they decide this one is a lesbian and you must be lesbian.
The first Horizon was boring anyway. I played it pretty much end to end. Okay concept with the robot dinos that suffers from the concept that more game is best even if it's boring.
Beneath the (admittedly industry leading) graphics, Horizon is just a more polished version of an Ubisoft open world game. It’s repetitive and overlong with a mediocre story. Sony fanboys pumped it up because it was a PlayStation exclusive, but it didn’t have nearly the cultural relevance of Elden Ring.
Although they could’ve also said that straight people make up the vast majority of the world so it makes sense for that to be the default. I just see in more modern open world games where the player has the option

The American market used to he open like that in the 1970s. But this is the post modern era sadly.
