Very sad but not surprised. I know it’s seen as bad to be patriotic anymore
I'm part of the 2019-2023 downtick. There's nothing left to be patriotic about. The Republic is dead, and I don't much like the taste of Democratcy.
I get that but still makes me sad. I graduated high school in 99 and joined the Air Force. I come from a military family and none of us would want to serve today. Sad it’s become like this. I was born in 80 and I can say it’s not the country I grew up in
There was a good country here.
It's gone now.
At the same time, I do question that one. Because at least where I live, people are still largely patriotic, people still fly the flag, and people still say they love the country. Certainly not as low as 38%. Makes me wonder if it is so cratered in Left-Wing areas it drags down the average to an absurd degree.
That is true. I live in the Dallas Fort Worth area and I live in a red/purple county so you do see patriotism more. But there is a difference between what you see on tv in the major east and west coast hubs. I imagine in Kansas there are plenty of down to earth good people like you see in Texas. Or like I saw growing up in Oklahoma
I was actually just down in Dallas recently for a concert, so I know exactly what you are talking about. Hell, even the band was getting in on it, despite not even being American ("Our friends told us you Americans are wild. They were right, and we love you for that!").
Cool! I know Dallas is more liberal than the Ft Worth area. I got cousins in Dallas and they’ll invite me to cookouts and stuff and I tell them that I can’t go due to them living in a blue county. I’m kidding of course
It's at least nice enough I can walk around and feel [relatively] safe. At least around Deep Ellum (which is where the concert was). As opposed to the time I went to Denver and regretted it the entire time because the streets were packed with tweeked out homeless people.
I guess from a national sense it’s different from when I grew up. Definitely the race stuff, but I’ve lived most of my life in red or red/purple areas so locally it’s been pretty good
I'm more of a patriotic Iowan than a patriotic American.

That's a huge drop in patriotism from 2019 to 2023, more than can be explained by the usual insidious subversion. Was the January 6 narrative really this effective at poisoning the well, or did something else happen? Was it Covid related?
And it's weird how community involvement rose significantly and then shot down again. My thought is that people are just not seeing anything worth fighting for anymore. Society has bared its diseased underbelly and people know it's only going to get worse.
I think it was BLM/covid & the 2020 election fallout.
