There are women who legitimately complain online/ to friends because they are asked out when they dress up and go to bars.
It's a way to show social status. They don't really complain, they broadcast "many men find me attractive". But they can't be open with that, thus they "complain".
They started with humblebragging, which os obnoxious to begin with, and weaponized it.
