I'm a European person who never shot a gun. So correct me if I'm wrong, but this is my take.
In the US, guns are around. Now, you can agree or disagree with the situation, but simply making your kid not understand guns and not know how they work is not making them safe.
It benefits them to know guns are not magic. You have to take them seriously, but they won't just jump at you by themselves. A kid who knows about them and understands them (to me) sounds a lot less likely to fuck around and do something stupid.
But also, I looked up this Matt person. He is a makeup wearing "queer jew" who wants you to call him 'he/they'. A man prancing around made up like a cheap hooker is a danger to children. No matter what.
It gets a little more in depth. In the more rural part of the country, guns are a part of the culture. Want something to do? Go to a a spot and shoot targets. Everyone owns guns, deals with guns, and thinks of guns as part of their life. When I want to sound as American as I can, I think about my favorite gun.
The journalists and the like only associate guns with gang members and killers. So, they see a gun and assume someone is about to be shot. It doesn't help that to learn gun safety takes a lot more work and effort than it does in the rural parts.
Europe is just told the gangster part.
BTW, the rural people are told that gang violence is rampant in the cities, so they assume anyone from a city is part of a gang or deals with it all the time.
Even this is more meme than reality. There are only two places where you will see guns on the regular if a member of your household isn't a big gun guy. Rural areas or the ghetto.
The ghetto one is the problem, because its almost always being used for something very bad, in a very unsafe manner, and completely illegally. This is also the only one most of the Left sees (because their urban sprawls always have ghettos) and the one they talk about the most (so Europe thinks every neighborhood in America is a nigger infested ghetto).
Like, your street probably has a few guns on it at any time. But if you aren't a crime heavy area you'll also probably never see one of them in your lifetime.
Hearing gunshots in rural areas prompts a reaction of "oh, the old farmer must be lining up his rifle for deer season" or "nice, somebody bought a new gun". Shooting in well-seasoned urban areas is somewhat different.
If for no other reason than for having seen journalists handling firearms, which conclusively shows that abstinence is not the best form of protection where firearms are concerned.

In the city sirens are nothing to worry about but gunshots are very bad. In the country it's the other way around.

Bingo.
