Strange timing. Of course it’s just how the universe “works”, but it is a bit surreal…
Jeff Beck (meningitis), I don’t know all that much about, but I’ve heard some of his music/playing before… Definitely talented, but I’m surprised he lasted this long, as a formerly drug-taking rocker…
Pell (“complications arising from hip surgery”) - a very controversial figure, in Australia and beyond. Takes his secrets to his grave, and obviously can no longer defend his own name…
Lisa-Marie (heart attack, declared brain dead after being “revived”) - that’s the most tragic one, I think. 54, tragic family history and clearly went through a lot. Seemed like a sad, damaged, volatile, fragile person. You might disagree with some of what she did, and some of the choices she made, but she certainly lived a complex life, and tried to manage the spotlight literally from when she was born, as best she could. It’s very unfortunate that, like so many celebrity families, here has been full of so many early “departures”…
Vale. Vale all. “Advertising Space” rings even more hollow now.
“There’s no earthly way of knowing what was in your heart, when it stopped going.” - 😳
They don't die by the three's anymore, they keel over in big groups. My guess would be that the current crop of dead notable people were most probably 75% vaxxed. Likely quite high vacc rates as such people are media junkies.
We may be about to witness a huge die-off of the vaxxed and boosted. I fear it's coming.
I think the more interesting observation is that Pope Benedict and George Pell died only ten days apart. There are enough public figures of various stripes that three dying in a week isn't surprising, but two heads of the Catholic Church draw from a much smaller pool.
I mean, sure, but you have to factor in age, there…
Benedict/Ratzinger was 95, I believe. Pell was 81. If anyone else of that age died, we wouldn’t be at all surprised…
Hence, I’m much more shocked by a 54 year old dying…
It’s certainly noteworthy to lose those two in quick succession, but possibly not all that surprising, as such…
Would have been considerably more dramatic if Francis, who is also quite frail of course, had also died…
So yeah, you’re not wrong, I guess, arguably, but Presley was the only one who died before approximate normal human life expectancy…
I guess it also a little shocking given that Pell had just been at Benedict’s funeral, and Presley was at the Globes two days ago.
Other than that, it’s just shitty timing, really.
Presley might have been 54, but she was a cokehead for much of her adult life. Add to that a certain genetic predisposition towards heart issues and dying young, and it's not all that surprising.
I agree. Beck was near 80 . . . not a bad run for a major rock star.
Presley must have been an alcoholic or druggie. Like father, like daughter.
I didn't even know he died. Guess that means I have succeeded in isolating myself from world news. Not sure if that's a good thing or not.
Add to this Dori Monson died. Conservative radio host out of Seattle. Never heard of him before but it was a "sudden heart issue."
Michael Bachman from BTO and Jeff Beck this week also. Both sudden.
Didn't hear about Bachman. BTO drummer.
Bububububaybee you ain't seen nothin' yet. Here's something here's something you're never gonna forget. Mmmm-mmmmm no, no, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
What a riot!
I made up my own Mad Magazine-style parody of that one:
So I said, "Any booty's good booty, So I took what I could get . . . Mmm-Mmmmm-Mmmmm And then and then she looked at me with her Big Brown Eye and said, "You ain't had none of this yet!"
The Rolling Stones say hi.
Though Keith Richards may well have died decades ago, and just hasn't figured it out yet, because he's been too damn high this whole time.
As for Lisa Marie, I wonder if she's gonna go haunt Graceland with her dad ... probably not.
