Thoughts that made me shudder just a few years ago now sound positively appealing. It helps when your opponents want you dead for not following the orthodoxy from 5 minutes ago.
It's especially disturbing when that orthodoxy has already been proven wrong over and over. It's bad enough these are vicious cultists who want us dead. It's worse that they can't even logically justify any of what they're pushing for, meaning it's impossible to try to reach any sort of common ground or have any logical discussion with these monsters.
I love Shakespeare but this is no surprise. He is a dead white male who wrote amazing plays (assuming the theory about Francis Bacon isn’t true). Red meat for these morons. I graduated high school in 99 so we still read him. I wonder if schools read his stuff today.
What I worry about is that as long as we continue to cling to ONE (white) MAN’S view of life as he lived it so long ago, we (perhaps unwittingly) promote the notion that other cultural perspectives are less important. ... So I ask, why not teach the oral tradition out of Africa, which includes an equally relevant commentary on human behavior? Why not teach translations of early writings or oral storytelling from Latin America or Southeast Asia other parts of the world?
Yeah, why not teach African or Latin American writings in ENGLISH class.

During the seminar dedicated to discussing King Lear, the two guest panellists, Professor Preti Taneja and Associate Professor Urvashi Chakravarty, repeatedly make reference to “whiteness” — a common term within Critical Race Theory (CRT) — within the play, with both academics relating such “whiteness” to colonialism and strategies of “divide and rule”.
Wokeness as a jobs program for idiots is underestimated as a factor.
Just what kind of a job do you think these morons can do?
I hate that play. Like, it is my least favourite Shakespeare apart from maybe Coriolanus…
But no, as someone who has seen too many versions of it, too many times, I can assure you that it is not…
Whiteness is utterly irrelevant to what happens. However two of the utterly psychopathic villains within it are female, so I suppose this is one way of getting around mentioning that…
Seriously, they make Lady Macbeth look stable…
Just… I wouldn’t recommend reading this one. It’s… Not a good time.
Oh, also, it’s like… A treatise on dementia, and on toxic family. Race… Is not relevant.
But it’s just… Not something I would recommend, unless the only thing you watch is Game of Thrones and you want something even more brutal, lol…
That’s not to say it isn’t “well written”. It is, of course. But even as a Shakespeare play, it’s just… Too unpleasant, for my liking. And I think I’ve read 10 or so of those, by now…
I do note that in one version I saw (by the Royal Shakespeare Company, no less, I believe!), with Ian Mckellen in it as Lear, the baddies were all played by working class white actors, while the heroes were all a) posh, or b) *black…
Obviously that was intentional, but at the time I just thought the casting was jarring, not necessarily outright seditious, lol…
Of course, the English have let some stinking Hindu run the Globe and he misreads the play to accommodate his water-headed racist notions.
Lear is about family relations, not colonialism, you utterly retarded racist fuckwads. It's even stretching metaphor to insist Lear is a commentary on Elizabethan English politics.
You 'know' all sorts of things that aren't rue though. Remember the 'male curfew'? Remember how you claimed men going for a Pfizer vaccine would secretly get AstraZeneca? Remember that you said Kim Potter would never be indicted?
I just thought it was better to point out who commissioned it.
Hard to believe that an actual adult would think the head of an organization is interfering with the day to day workings. You claim to have a job.
An organization? A bit generous to call the Globe Theatre an organization. It's a constantly propped up leech off the British state, surviving off endless arts grants that are based off what it was 400 years ago. The last time it turned a profit was nearly 5 years ago.
Anyone who seriously uses "whiteness" can be dismissed...from the helicopter.

Even if it were possible, I'm always appalled at even the thought of common ground or compromise with literal monsters.
Them: Shakespeare was a fascist!
Also Them: Shakespeare's play was about honk honk whatever progressive shit is hot right now.

Francis Bacon was also (hiss) white. Although he did not write Shakespeare.
I'm not from an English-language country, but even we read a Shakespeare play. And it wasn't Julius Caesar.
As for your question: unfortunately, probably not.
Yeah, why not teach African or Latin American writings in ENGLISH class.

Agreed. I was just referring to that conspiracy theory about Bacon in case someone brought it up.
I wouldn't call it a conspiracy theory. But... you know what's funny? The advocates of the theory have the kinds of names that make you think.
Thomas Loony and Charles Batty.
Nomen est omen.

You describe good drama.
Lear is one of my favorites.
Imp would approve of the mercenary daughters as accurate characterizations of women, but what would he say about Cordelia?

Fuck you!

I'll never get tired of being right.
I'll let you know when that finally happens.
I guess the Indian names threw you off. You didn't realize that they were female themselves, so you went looking for the proximate female.
You'll never get tired of being right, because you never are.
No, I knew they were female.

The article refers to both of them as "she".

You read the article?!?
Are you assuming organizational continuity there?
